World of Warcraft tips I wish I knew before I started playing

If you’re looking to start or get back into the world’s most famous MMO I recommend you check out this quick list of tips that will help you get into the swing of things!

With such a behemoth of a game, it would be no wonder someone going blindly into World of Warcraft might be a little intimidated when it comes to all the things you have to do. Some that people assume you already know most of this information. This article is meant to help with some of that.

And if you want an even easier time getting adjusted to the game’s many mechanics and activities, I would get some WoW gold. This will help expedite some of the more grind-heavy activities the game has.

World of Warcraft tips

Picking a class

People tend to stress themselves a lot thinking of which class to pick. Well, I am here to tell you not to worry too much. You can look at the intricacies of each class all you want, see what’s meta, what’s not, and pick a class that you thought would best fit your team, but the next patch changes how your class works fundamentally. It’s best to just see the overall concept of a class and pick it. Of course if you’re playing with friends, and you’re all deciding which role in the party you will have, such as healer, DPS, tank and the such, you can still pick many classes that fit these. Try them and see which best suits you!

Perfect race

Now, similar to the previous point, people will overthink their class too much. Each class has different bonuses, and sometimes they want one that best compliments their class. But honestly, these bonuses are so inconsequential that it doesn’t really matter. Just pick whatever you find cool!

Ask for help

World of Warcraft has a neat new feature now called “Newcomer chat” where new players get to ask questions to experienced ones. This feature is automatically removed for you once you reached a certain level or amount of hours played, so if you have any doubts, don’t think twice and just ask! Of course, once you join a guild, if you decide to, there will be many people that will probably be perfectly happy to answer most of your questions.

If it’s your first raid or dungeon, let your teammates know

The World of Warcraft community is actually very nice, opposite to what some might tell you. If you’re new and entering these teamwork-heavy activity, it’s crucial that you tell your teammates. If you don’t, they might have some expectations about what you know that you just don’t meet, and it can be frustrating for them. Most of these players probably have done these activities many times and have come up with a well known method of playing it. However, if you let them know, most of them will be glad to help you and explain some of the ins and outs of the game.

Organize your inventory

You need to manage your inventory before it’s too late. You’ll see your inventory become a mess if you just leave it hanging and in some of the most intense moments in this game finding the right item could prove crucial! Heed my warning! Also either sell or destroy any unnecessary items and gear because you have limited inventory space.

Addons

Addons are a godsend when it comes to WoW. So many functions made easy thanks to them. Just in the previous point I made the point to manage your inventory, well there’s addons that can help you with that by auto selling items that are unnecessary. Personally, I recommend Bagnon! If there’s any part of the UI, HUD, or even some of the gameplay aspects, just look up addons that might be able to fix some of your issues entirely.

Join a guild

When I played World of Warcraft I tried to play most of the game by myself, but once I finally decided to join a guild, I was kicking myself over taking so long to do it. Not only do you get more experience and access to new activities, but you also enter a whole new social phase of the game. You can look for guilds that focus mainly on certain activities like raids or PvP, talk with experienced players and learn from them! You’ll find people are way more helpful when you’re a part of their guild too, and some even actively seek to teach newcomers. At least that was my experience.

Stay up to date on news

I hinted to this before, but the meta changes with some updates, and sometimes it can be pretty drastic. I recommend checking official forums, social networks or just asking experienced players about some of the changes coming and maybe even what they think of them. It’s also good when a new expansion is on the horizon.

Enable auto loot

Disabled by default, Auto loot is a very useful option will make you automatically pick up everything off a fallen foe, instead of having you picking each item one by one. This is crucial, specially at the start because you can then go sell these things, and if you have been paying attention to the other tips you should have the free inventory space!

Spend gold wisely

You can make quite a bit of gold in this game, but you shouldn’t forget that it’s also a very important resource and shouldn’t be taken lightly. Careful with the prices in the markets and in buying anything that might not be crucial.

In conclusion

World of Warcraft is not very beginner-friendly at all. There’s so much to know and because it’s so old, a lot of players will assume you know some things unless you tell them otherwise. However, it also has some of the most welcoming communities of any game I’ve ever played and made friends in. The game is so much more than just regular fun if you fully embrace the social aspect of it and ask for help. That and making use of the many community-made addons that are floating around.
